How to Gain from Your Garden
Sense of achievement
Whether you’re doing the weeding or building a rockery, you can get a real sense of achievement from gardening.
Even if you don’t have a garden, just by growing some herbs, vegetables, flowers or cacti inside, on a windowsill or balcony, it’s extremely rewarding to see things growing and thriving from your hard work.
Improves your mood
Spending a little time in the garden can provide you with an escape and increase your self-esteem. By getting some dirt under your nails it can go some way to make you feel happier for having achieved something substantial.

Vitamin D is essential for your body and getting out in the sunshine provides a great source of this for you. Vitamin D helps to improve your immune system and strengthen your bones. Just a few minutes of daylight, even during cloudy days is enough to charge your Vitamin D levels.
Form of exercise
Gardening is a great form of exercise as it can build your strength and gets your heart rate up. Activities like raking and mowing the lawn, or perhaps even clearing the leaves or snow would be deemed as lighter forms of exercise. Whilst chopping, digging and lifting garden items may be a little more intense.
Grow your own
Growing your own fruit and vegetables has many benefits. It saves you money, it’s good for the environment, it helps you to stay active and gives you a tremendous sense of achievement. Not to mention you know exactly what’s gone into growing them, so you know they’re organic with no pesticides.
Good for the family
Gardening provides a great opportunity to bond with family. It’s also good for kid’s exposure to nature and getting outside away from screens and technology. Learning together how things grow and evolve is an amazing way to cultivate understanding and supports Key Stage Learning for younger ones.
