It’s International Volunteer Day

05th Dec 2019

Today we recognise and celebrate the tremendous efforts of millions of volunteers around the world.

If you’ve ever wanted to give volunteering a try, but not sure how to get involved or what to do, why not start with CSSC? Or perhaps you’ve been volunteering for years and fancy a change, or even sharing your experience with us to lead a team of volunteers?

Volunteering with CSSC is a great stepping-stone to finding a cause that works for you. We’ve been championing volunteers for nearly 100 years, so we know what makes our team tick. You’ll be joining over 1,000 dedicated volunteers with thousands of hours of experience between them.

So, if you’re keen to get involved, but unsure what to expect, we can guide you through the whole journey. We provide extensive training and all the equipment, forms and kit you’ll need. We can organise a buddy to shadow and you’ll be supported by a dedicated head office team with everything you need.

What can you do for CSSC?

Our volunteers enjoy hundreds of exciting roles and opportunities. With activities ranging from chaperoning ski trips in the Alps to Treasurer of a local bowls club, we’ve got something for every taste, experience and time commitment.

Throughout December we’re highlighting a selection of our positions on our ‘Volunteering advent calendar’ on facebook. Or, you can see our entire range of current opportunities, on the volunteer’s web page.

If nothing tantalises your taste buds right now, complete the registration form and we’ll be in touch when something comes up, which we think you might be interested in.

What happens next?

Once you’ve found a role you like, familiarise yourself with the requirements and time commitments. If you can’t commit to the full duration it may be possible to job share with someone else.

Email the team who’ve posted the opportunity and they’ll be in touch shortly. CSSC will also keep in touch throughout your application to answer any questions you have. Some roles may require additional checks, such as DBS, which may take some time to complete.

Once you’ve been confirmed in the post, CSSC will provide all the equipment, training and resources you need and will arrange for introductions to the volunteering team, to welcome you onboard. Our support will grow with you and keep pace with your development. We’ll continue to guide you through every aspect of your role and will always be on hand with expert advice and support.

Tomorrow we’ll post an agenda of what a typical day can look like for a volunteer, to give you a real flavour of what to expect.

Happy Volunteer Day!
