The London Marathon 2022
Since moving to its new date in the calendar, which we think was a brilliant idea given the unpredictable April heat, the London Marathon has continued to be the pinnacle of world races and charitable sponsorship events.
Having only witnessed the London Marathon from within the UK it’s hard to understand just how highly it’s regarded around the world, not only as a formidable race, but as a visually spectacular event, which encourages everybody from all walks of life to take up running and to raise funds for worthwhile causes.
This year’s charity of the year is the British Heart Foundation. With many people including celebrities and sports stars raising funds for this incredible charity. You can find out more about how to get involved on the official website.
More than just a running road race
It’s this combination of elite professional athleticism and festival of flamboyance which makes the London Marathon so unique and so popular with competitors and spectators alike.
Over recent years the London Marathon has grown to include other separate races. From wheelchair races to junior runs, they call the mini marathon.
This year, for the first time, there’s a one mile and 2.6KM mass participation event for schools, being held on Saturday 1 October, the day before the main event. Any child from reception to year 12 can take part and every finisher will cross the famous finish line and receive a Mini London Marathon medal of their very own.
Due to the popularity, registration is now closed for this year’s run, but if you’re inspired to get your school or club involved, keep an eye open for next year’s witing list.
