World Mental Health Day

For over 100 years we’ve supported the health and wellbeing of the civil service and public sector through sports, leisure and recreation. From the very early days, we recognised and championed the value of teamwork, camaraderie and fitness for keeping people happy, engaged and energised, both in and out of work.

But more recently we’ve expanded our range of activities and benefits to include a more holistic approach to wellbeing.

In the last 10+ years or so, there has been a seismic shift in the world’s understanding of what being healthy means. We’ve moved from a more physical environment to focusing more on one of mind, body and soul.

Ever one to be at the forefront of health and wellbeing, CSSC has developed a sustainable range of products and services to help our members and the wider public sector grow, develop and take care of what matters most.

Active Wellbeing 2023

AW has fast become one of our favourite annual events. It encourages not just members, but the whole civil service, public sector and their families to connect with each other and with themselves. Whether through sports, competition, exercise, communities or learning.

It provides many opportunities for participants to grow and realise their best self, by providing the time, inspiration and space to develop skills, play games, enjoy classes and celebrate inner calmness.

Look out for next year’s Active Wellbeing coming in early 2023 for your chance to explore new ways to relax, engage and change your thinking.

CSSC life

CSSC life is our primary health and wellbeing portal. It’s packed full of fantastic courses, classes, tools, menus, tips, skills, chats and many more useful ideas to help inspire and excite you.

It takes just a minute to sign up to this completely free service yet opens the door to an entire world of physical and mental health. Whatever aspect of your lifestyle you’re looking to improve CSSC life can help.

You can set you own nutrition plans to help you eat a balanced diet. You can get help with your sleep to improve your patterns. The digital gym brings the power and experience of experts from across the world to your living room and offices to help you find a class, exercise or course that’s perfect for you. The Be Calm element is perfect for reducing stress and anxiety, gaining confidence, improving performance and concentration, and increasing happiness and focus.

If you do nothing else with CSSC life, you should definitely check out the Wellbeing Studio, which comes with loads of excellent resources to share with your friends, family and colleagues. Perfectly designed to fit around the workday, 10-minute micro sessions on dozens of topics from self-defence and Pilates to learning new languages and card tricks.

Never underestimate the power of a simple chat

It’s no coincidence that WMHD falls on a Monday, traditionally the most stressful day of the week for many. While some of us may be working from home and not among others, it can be even more important to connect with others.

So, why not use today to simply start a conversation? You could reach out to a colleague or even a friend whom you have spoken to for a while and just have a chat. There is loads going on in the world at the moment that can feel overwhelming and the simple process of sharing how you feel and providing an outlet for others can be the difference between an upward or downward trajectory for the week, month or year.

But if you’re ready to try something a little more energetic, why not book a meeting room, source some yoga mats or get help purchasing them through CSSC and arrange a ten-minute Pilates, yoga or breathing session? It could quite easily start a conversation or be the outlet many need to improve their mental health.
