Name: Tom Holden
Role: Communications Officer Volunteer (Eastern)
Joined: June 2019
- Why did you decide to volunteer for CSSC?
I studied Journalism at the University of Sheffield, and after taking a job in digital within the Civil Service, I missed the satisfaction I got from producing news stories and articles. Therefore, I saw the opportunity to help out as a Communications Officer and jumped at the chance. - How long have you been a volunteer and what do you enjoy about your role?
Just over three months now and I’ve been amazed at how friendly and helpful everyone has been. I love being able to use my Journalism skills again, and I like hearing about the many brilliant sporting heroes we have in the Eastern region and first hand seeing what great things CSSC can offer. - What do you enjoy doing outside of CSSC?
I play football, golf and squash – when I can, but being in London and working in Southend, it isn’t always easy. I also read a lot and probably play video games a bit too much. - What are you looking forward to next?
I’m looking forward to heading up to Birmingham for a night out with a bunch of friends from University – it’s been an age since I last saw them. - Who would you invite to your dream dinner party (4 max)?
Hard to keep it to four! I’d have to say: Jeremy Clarkson, Freddie Flintoff, Miguel Angel-Jimenez and Aisling Bea. - What advice would you give to new volunteers, or people thinking of volunteering?
Give it a try, you can be involved as much or little as you want to be and it can be really rewarding to meet like-minded people who are passionate about making a difference. Plus, you get free chocolates in the induction pack!
